VoiceThread: A Multimedia Tool for Project Collaboration

I created this interactive lesson containing a video demonstration and simulation using Adobe Captivate. The goal was to create a step-by-step tutorial on a process or tool that contained both a screencast and interactive simulation so learners could also perform each step. Another goal was to create a seamless experience in which the user could access every component in one self-contained module. My choice of topic was inspired by my role as an instructional designer and technologist at RIT where I worked with and trained faculty on VoiceThread for their online courses.

Target Audience

College faculty who teach online courses and plan to use VoiceThread to set up asynchronous discussions and collaborative spaces for students.

Type of Instructional Video

This interactive lesson guides faculty viewers through an overview of VoiceThread’s functionality, a video demonstration, and an interactive simulation. The simulation prompts them through each step of creating and sharing a VoiceThread; faculty users login to the VoiceThread site, create a VoiceThread, upload content, post a comment, and publish so others can also access and post to the VoiceThread.

The main menu contains buttons to jump to each section. A checkmark appears once the learner completes a section.

Interactive Content

VTDemo

Click-and-reveal interactivity is used to engage the learner and provide more detail only when needed.

Embedded Video

Related Resources I Have Developed on VoiceThread

As an Instructional Designer and Technologist at RIT, I developed a number of faculty resources. Discovery Notes were one-page informational resources to help faculty learn about new or emerging technologies and how fellow RIT faculty were using them in their teaching.
