about me
Welcome to my portfolio! I'm Marybeth Koon...
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. For over 25 years, I have worked in higher education helping faculty and students foster meaningful learning experiences with a special emphasis on creating accessible online, hybrid, and classroom learning.
Since 1998, when I began my career in higher education at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I have always had a passion for empowering people through the use of technology and finding creative solutions to address their instructional needs.
My Professional Development Journey
Throughout my professional journey as an Instructional Designer and Technologist, I have also invested in my own learning and growth. In May 2023, I earned a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology from Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg with a focus on Learning Experience Design and eLearning. This milestone has allowed me to merge my extensive hands-on experiences at RIT with innovations in training and development. Through this endeavor, I have honed my content development and software skills, deepened my understanding of instructional design methodologies, and expanded my expertise in a number of areas including project management, gamification, and responsive design. With a background in the visual arts, I have also enjoyed applying my artistic skills to the design and development process with a focus on creating visually engaging learning experiences that are effective, meaningful, and inclusive.
New and Meaningful Professional Experiences
As an Instructional Designer and Technologist at Nazareth University and the Golisano Institute of Business and Entrepreneurship, I continued to develop expertise in the ever-evolving landscape of emerging technology. At Nazareth University, I served as the Moodle LMS administrator, guiding the campus through a major system upgrade. As the lead trainer, I oversaw training, resource development, and day-to-day technical support for several academic technologies. At Golisano, I facilitated sessions on active learning strategies, helped with online course builds, and developed faculty resources on inclusive teaching strategies and effective technology use in the classroom.
I have also had several opportunities to investigate, implement, and develop training on generative AI and its use and impact at the university level; I served on a cross-disciplinary task force at Nazareth University and also collaborated with my Golisano colleagues to explore assistive, AI writing tools and strategies for struggling students.
Looking Forward to the Path Ahead
For my porfolio, I have selected examples of my work that I feel demonstrate my diverse skills and experiences over an extensive career in instructional design and technology.
I welcome the opportunity to connect and explore how I can contribute as a team member to your organization's educational and training initiatives. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
Let's embark on this educational journey together!
Warm regards,
Marybeth
